How to Use @ to Chain GPTs Inside a Single Chat

Switching between multiple GPT chats just to get one job done? It slows you down, breaks focus, and creates friction in any workflow.

The Fix: Use @ to Call Multiple GPTs in One Chat

ChatGPT now lets you call other custom GPTs in a single conversation using the @ symbol. This means you can move through multi-step tasks — like writing, planning, or technical work — without ever leaving your chat.

Step-by-Step:

  • Step 1: Open ChatGPT on web (this feature is not available in the mobile app).

  • Step 2: Go to the Explore GPTs section and select or create your first custom GPT.

  • Step 3: Start chatting with that GPT as usual.

  • Step 4: When you want to call another GPT, just type @ in the message box. A list of your saved GPTs will appear.

  • Step 5: Select the next GPT you want to call. Type your prompt as usual after selecting it.

Example:

@MyResearchGPT — Can you analyze this and give me bullet points?

You can repeat this for a third or fourth GPT — all in the same conversation.

Important Notes:

  • This only works in the web version of ChatGPT.

  • Each GPT call must be manually triggered by the user — there is no automatic GPT-to-GPT chaining.

Why It Matters:

Whether you're writing reports, doing project planning, or breaking down technical tasks, this feature reduces friction. It allows you to string together your specialized GPTs like tools in a toolbox — all in one space, with shared context.
